The Wolf's Mate: a Tale of the Holtlands by R. F. Long

ISBN: 1-60504-702-3; 978-1-60504-702-7

"It’s well written, fast paced and filled with interesting and unique characters....The best part of the story is Jeren herself. I liked her in The Wolf’s Sister but in this release, she really grows and shines, as she turns into a confident and determined woman, willing to fight for her man. I’m very curious to see what happens to these two mates with the next and last release." - 4 Nymphs, Mystical Nymph, Literary Nymphs Reviews Only

Their love is a forbidden gift. Keeping it means a fight to the death…

A Tale of the Holtlands, Book 2

After escaping from her Holtlands home and her brother’s madness, Jeren looks forward to a new life with her beloved Shan and his people. She doesn’t expect the Fey’na to readily accept someone of her bloodline, but she’s determined to prove herself worthy. Then the jealous eyes of the beautiful sect mother, Ylandra, fall on Shan—handsome, strong, matchless among warriors—turning Jeren’s fragile new world upside down.

Shan wants nothing more than to be with Jeren, the courageous beauty who’s captured his heart. But their ancient enemy has attacked, and Ylandra cleverly uses an archaic oath to bind him to her service—fulltime. As he sets out on a suicide mission into the heart of enemy territory, he promises Jeren he’ll return—somehow—to claim her as his mate.

Jeren is left alone to make a place for herself among the elite Fey’na warriors, until a Holtlands envoy arrives bearing her ancestors’ sword. This magical artifact calls to the innate magic in her blood and forces her to make a terrible choice. She could lead the battle to free her people…but only if she forsakes Shan.

Warning: contains scary monsters, desperate acts, burning jealousy and the consummation of a timeless love.

13 Great Maxine Quotes

13 Words of Wisdom from Maxine:

Last week I did a list of quotes. This week I decided to do sayings from Maxine. Who is Maxine, you ask? The acerbic, cranky old woman from Hallmark's Shoebox Greeting cards. And, believe me, it was hard to wittle her list down to only 13...

1. There is no vaccine against stupidity!

2. You learn something new every day. Usually, how dumb yet another person is.

3. I'm busy now can I ignore you some other time???

4. Don't let your mind wander. . . it's too small to be let out on its own.

5. Don't make me use UPPERCASE.

6. Some people can have all the lights on and still be in the dark.

7. I keep hitting "escape," but I'm still here.

8. Wipe your mouth, there's still a tiny bit of bullshit around your lips.

9. Well aren't you just the most adorable black hole of need?

10. Don't believe everything you think.

11. Sometimes wouldn't you like to just put the whole day in your toilet......and then flush!

12. I don't know what your problem is. . . but I bet it's hard to pronounce.

13. I hear you changed your mind at last. . . what did you do with the diaper?

The Omegas by Annie Nicholas

THE OMEGAS just released from Lyrical Press and already getting great reviews.

From Dark Diva Review:

“As you can probably tell, Annie Nicholas has made quite an impact on me with The Omegas, and surprisingly enough, it is a novella at only 60 pages. That tells me that Ms. Nicholas is a skilled author who does not waste words when writing books. The characters were phenomenal, the plot line unique and well-written, and she even managed to use the perfect balance of vivid descriptions to bring the characters and their surroundings to life in my head.” Melissa

Only a vampire is man enough to teach werewolves how to fight.

BLURB:

Pretty librarian Sugar wants her life to stay quiet. That’s hard enough when friends and neighbors turn into furry wolves every full moon. But when a hot vampire gets involved, life’s bound to get complicated.

The Omegas have always been the pansies of the paranormal. Now Chicago’s top werewolf pack has issued them a life or death challenge. Their only option: hire a vampire warrior to teach them the moves.

Daedalus has been a powerful vampire for ages. Intrigued by the chance to train the geeks of the underworld, he wasn’t bargaining on losing his heart to a human. Can he make the Omegas a success, fit into Sugar’s quiet life, and avoid being ripped to shreds in the process?

Buy link www.lyricalpress.com/the_omeagas

Excerpt:

Sugar walked to the Omegas’ apartment. Quiet dominated their corner of the building since Mr. Pal Robi’s arrival last week. She’d seen them when she went out on her garden balcony to water the plants last night. They jogged with their vampire trainer on the sidewalk. He ran, and they straggled behind. Other than that she hadn’t seen any of them. No one came over to visit. Not even Katrina, who had become a permanent fixture in her home.

She stood in front of their door and wiped her sweaty palms on her old, worn jeans. Maybe I should have changed.

The thought irritated her. She’d never worried about her looks before he moved in. She’d never lusted after a man like this either. Her past lovers always started as emotional relationships, then grew into something physical. What she experienced with Daedalus seemed more animalistic. If she fucked him and got it over with, then maybe her mind would clear. The memory of his sexy half-smile with a wink haunted her every night. Those blue eyes, broad shoulders, firm body, bald head—

The apartment door swung open, and the demon of her fantasies stood staring at her, shirtless. A thin sheen of sweat covered his pale skin as if he’d been doing some vigorous exercises. It made him shine. The circular tattoo she’d glimpsed through his shirt on their first meeting covered his heart, a black snake eating its tail.

He gave her a crooked smile, melting her to the spot. “Hello, sweetness. I got tired of waiting for you to knock.” He stepped back and gestured for her to come in.

As she entered the Omegas’ apartment she noticed the place looked cleaner than usual. Five wolves under one roof could make quite a clutter. Daedalus must have them run a tighter ship.

“How did you know I was out in the hall?” A little shaken after his sudden appearance, her concentration slipped and she couldn’t remember her reason for being there. His being half-naked didn’t help.

“I have a good sense of smell.” He closed the door behind her.

“You smelled me? Good to know for future reference.”

Fingers ran through her curls as she walked past him. She glanced over her shoulder, but his back faced her while he locked the door. It must have been her imagination. The touch felt real though. Did he move that fast?
He finished with the locks and turned around. “I heard you walk down the hall too. Why were you waiting?”

She didn’t know, looking for some courage maybe or a little self-confidence with an internal pep talk. “I was thinking about going back for a book Sam wanted to borrow,” she lied. Something unsettling occurred to her. “Can you read minds too?”

He chuckled and leaned in close, his nose almost touching hers. “Possibly. Are you thinking dirty thoughts?”

“No!” Her cheeks burned.

“Then I guess I can’t.”

Did that mean he was thinking them?

He brushed past her to sit on the worn, beige couch. His touch sent a thrill through her, it unnerved her too. He tapped the cushion next to him.

Out of her element around him and his flirtatious ways, she sat in the armchair across from the couch. His request to sit next to him ignored since she couldn’t trust herself to not jump on his lap. Her lack of self-control surprised her. She allowed her eyes to roam his handsome face to his bare chest, each time she jerked them back up to meet his stare, they’d meander back down to those well-defined muscles.

An unfamiliar quiet filled the living room, where laughter and banter normally flooded the space. “Is anyone else home?”

“No.” He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. The heat in his gaze grew as he made his interest in her clearer. “We have the place to ourselves. What did you have in mind?”

Surrender Love by Kayelle Allen

Not rebound, loneliness, or great sex, and way beyond love. This is surrender.

At the breakfast table near the kitchen, Izzorah waited with hands folded in his lap for Luc to join him. He perked up his ears at the sound of his lover's footsteps.

Luc bent down to kiss him. "Good morning, love." He joined him at the table. "Are you sore?"

Drooping both ears down and back, Izzorah lowered his gaze and gave one negative shake of his head. I spent the night stark naked around this man, yet here I am blushing over a question? Izzy, get a grip. He aligned the flatware at his place. "Are you hungry?"

"Starved." Luc snapped open his napkin. "I think we both worked up an appetite."

Izzorah's cheeks blazed. He bit his lips, chuckling. "I know I did." He smiled up at Luc through his lashes.

They'd slept until they felt like rising, and woke to make love one more time. A leisurely shower where they'd scrubbed and shampooed each other had led to another quick session in the water. Izzorah was barefoot, but had pulled on his favorite Iron Soul T-shirt and a pair of loose jeans. Luc wore slippers, dark lounge pants, and a white T-shirt covered by his robe.

Does this man ever go barefoot or dress sloppy? Izzorah grinned. Prolly not, since a former supermodel used to live in his house. Or had Luc always been this well groomed? Hmm. Guess we'll see.

Luc's scent changed so subtly, Izzorah almost missed it.

He's hiding something! Izzorah flicked his ears outward, listening for clues, and gave a few sniffs. Something good. But what? Oooh, a surprise. He cleared his throat. "Um, Luc? What are you planning?"

"Planning?" He smiled, his scent full of conflicting layers of smells. Definitely hiding something.

Izzorah sniffed again.

"What?" Luc folded his hands on the table. "Your Kin nose is working overtime this morning. What is it you smell?"

"A surprise."

Luc widened his dark eyes and rested against the back of his chair. "How the hell do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"How do you know what I'm thinking?"

"Oh, I -- uh..." Luc's scent filled with an almost burnt butterscotch smell. Worry. Izzorah put his ears down and placed both hands in his lap. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to spoil it."

"It's all right, love. I've never met a Kin who could smell emotions as precisely as you." He rubbed a hand across his mouth. "Have you always been able to scent this well?" He propped both elbows on the table and rested his chin on both fists.

"Ever since I can remember."

His scent held overtones of cinnamon with crisp mint, very unique to Luc. Contentment and gratitude. When he smiled like that, it smelled like it came all the way from the depths of his soul.

"I love you, Rah." He drew Izzorah's hands to his mouth and kissed the back of his fingers. "But you already know, don't you?"

He nodded and gave Luc a human smile, showing fang. "So, do you really have a surprise for me?"

Luc laughed. "Yes, love, but you'll have to wait until later."

"I love surprises! It's hard to surprise me, you know."

"No! Really?" Luc leaned back in his chair.

Izzorah hooked a claw at him.

"Don't give me any claw." Luc shook a finger at him. "Not showing you till later."

He gave a short sneeze to clear away the various scents so he could focus. "Can I guess?"

"No." Luc folded his arms, lashes lowered.

Uh-oh. That really means no. Hmmm. Izzorah's napkin started to slide off his lap, and he hooked a claw into it and put it back. Once I learn what all these human facial moves mean it will be a big advantage. It'd be a lot easier if they had decent ears.

Luc picked up his coffee mug, looked into it, and frowned. "I need some coffee." He lifted his head. "McDoth!"

"Is it another sex game?" Izzorah scooted his chair forward. "Does it involve more chocolate body paint? I liked that."

Luc chuckled. "Wait and see." He looked up as McDoth entered with coffee. "Finally!" He rubbed his hands together. "My caffeine system has too much blood in it." With a glance at Izzorah, who had lifted both ears, he added, "A joke, love. Means I need coffee."

"Oh! I get it." Izzorah leaned back in his chair. "The guys in the band run on that kind of system, too." He lowered his gaze briefly before lifting his lashes and giving Luc a slow, satisfied smile. "You seem to function pretty well in the mornings without it."

Black Dragon's Heart by Anita Philmar

Black Dragon's Heart (paperback)
by Anita Philmar

Blurb-

Devoted chemist, Sarah VanHorn, lives for her research but fantasizes about loving Jake Ramsey. Her two worlds collide when the dragon center agent arrives to rescue her from the company suspected of producing chemicals dangerous to those with dragon blood.

Sarah's not the only one with fantasies. Jake wants Sarah as his mate and he's waited years to claim her. Now, under his protective custody--not to mention the influence of Syndetic's sexual stimulant scenting the air--he can't resist the fiery temptation to finally make her his.

But when tragedy strikes and their dreams are threatened, will Sarah sacrifice her career, Jake, and possibly her life to discover the answers? And will Jake let her?

Excerpt -

“William sent you here, didn’t he?” Sarah laid her hands on Jake’s shoulders, wondering if she’d lost her mind. For a lifetime, she’d wanted to make love to him. Now, he covered her chest, stomach, legs.

“Yes, and he’s the reason I shouldn’t let this go any further.” Jake shifted her hips to the edge of the narrow bed. “My assignment isn’t to sample the pleasures of your body, but to free you from here and carry you home to your family.”

His gaze fell to her breasts. Sarah smiled. The fire in his dragon blood demanded the same relief hers did. “But you will, won’t you? Because if you don’t, I might press the button by the door. You know it’s the responsibility of every cadet to report to security when a stranger enters their room.”

Jake’s eyes lifted to hers. “Are you trying to force me into complying with your will?”

“Do I need to?” Sarah raised her upper body so her breasts brushed against his chest. The hard evidence of his desire bit into her thigh. She wished he'd find a better place to rest, like deep inside her. “We both want the same things.”

“You have no idea the things I long to arouse in you.”

Interview with Guest Author Sapphire Phelan!

Please welcome my fellow Phaze author Sapphire Phelan!

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

I write as Pamela K. Kinney for nonfiction ghost books, horror, scifi, fantasy, poetry and articles, but under the pseudonym, Sapphire Phelan write erotic and sweet paranormal, fantasy, scifi romance and erotic urban fantasy. I even have couple erotic horror stories written as Sapphire. I am happily married since 1977, have an adult son and am owned by two cats, Bast and Ripley. I make and wear costumes, which I do at scifi conventions with my husband. I also have done acting on stage and in films, though not as often past three years, except for doing the voice of a robot in an erotic scifi podcast.

Do you use a pseudonym and if so, why?

Yes, Sapphire Phelan is a pseudonym. Originally for erotic romances, but now for sweet romances I have occasionally written.

What genre do you write in? Why did you pick that genre?

Mainly paranormal romance, though I did published one sweet historical romance story in a romance ezine in 2007. I enjoy reading the genre, hence writing it.

How would you describe your writing style? Plotter or pantser? Why?

Pantser. Because the stories go from begging to end in my mind. Was like that in school—always added the outline afterwards.

What is your favorite genre to READ?

Horror, urban fantasy, fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, some historical romance, and nonfiction paranormal books. I also enjoy some mysteries.

Do you have a specific place where you like to write? When, during the day, is your most creative time?

During the daytime, during the week is the best. I don’t work outside of the home, so this is my job. But I have written on weekends and at night, when something is needed to be finished.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers? Why?

I have a writing group that I have been with for ages. They’re the best I have found. I also have a critique partner gotten through my RWA chapter. She used to edit for Phaze so I know she can handle my erotic stories, while my writer’s group can handle what else I also write.

Who give you the most support along in your writing?

My family. Without my own hero, my husband, letting me do this, I might not have started back to writing back in 2000, along with taking a chance to do some acting.

What’s your take on the future of ebooks and epublishing?

I think that eBooks will be up there with print. I don’t believe print will go away, but both will be on equal terms. More and more times are changing and epublishing is coming into its own.

Do you have a favorite quote -- yours or someone famous or even infamous?

Mine: A story is the window of the soul of the author.

What’s your favorite food?

I lived both Mexican and Asian—especially Japanese and Sushi. I also love chicken and dumplings.

What’s your favorite movie? Why?

The Haunting (1963), Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back, all three LOTR films, American Werewolf in London—actually there’s a few more, but this will be enough.

Do you have a favorite book or author?

More than one fave: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Something Wicked This Way Comes and Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, Edgar Allan Poe, H. P. Lovecraft, Victoria Holt, Jim Butcher, and many more.

Tell me about your latest or upcoming release?

This spring, I will have an erotic paranormal romance, Ain’t Nothin’ Like Succubus Lovin’ coming from Phaze Books. It is one full of humor—quirky as my editor has called it.

What’s your next project?

I am working on a sequel to Being Familiar With a Witch and second book in then Beast Magic series.

An Excerpt from Double Dare

Genre: BDSM Multicultural Menage

http://www.loose-id.com/Double-Dare.aspx

What could be better than waking up next to a hot guy? Waking up sandwiched between two of them.

Quinn Preston, a financial analyst, is not happy when her friends dare her to pick up a handsome stranger at a wedding reception. What better reason to give up men when her previous long-term relationship had not only been lackluster in the bedroom but he had cheated?

Logan Reed, a successful business owner, can't believe that he's attracted to the woman in the ugly, Pepto-Bismol pink bridesmaid dress. And to boot, she's more than tipsy. After turning down her invitation for a one-night stand, he finds her in the parking lot too impaired to drive. He rescues her and takes her home. His home.

The next morning Quinn's conservative life turns on its ear when Logan introduces her to pleasures she never even considered before. And to make things more complicated, Logan already has a lover.

Tyson White, ex-pro football player, is completely in love with Logan. He has mixed emotions when Logan brings home Quinn. But the dares keep coming...

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, BDSM theme & content, male/male sexual practices, ménage (m/m/f).

~ * ~

Quinn Preston almost choked on her Alabama slammer when her friend elbowed her in the ribs. "Ooof."

She saved her drink before it could spill all over her ugly bridesmaid dress. Yeah, that would have been a shame: to ruin such a nice, frumpy, pukey pink taffeta dress. One the bride had said she would be able to wear in the future. Like to a cocktail party. Or maybe her own funeral. Yeah, right. No one in their right mind would want to get caught dead in this thing.

Ruining the dress wouldn't have been a loss, but losing her drink would have. She was drinking slammers for a reason -- to get good and drunk.

Lana nudged her again. "You see that?" She nodded her head toward the back of the room.

"What?" Quinn really didn't care what Lana was excited about. She just wanted to get this day over with. She was tired of watching the happy couple. She was tired of pasting on a plastic smile for the photographer. And she was really tired of listening to the sappy congratulations. All things she might never have -- the wedding, the husband, the bridal bliss. And something her parents never failed to remind her. Especially now that she was in her early thirties. And single. Again.

"Not what. Who."

"Huh?" She sucked on the dainty little straw the bartender had put in her drink. Hardly anything would come out of it. Maybe it was designed just for stirring. She pulled it out and threw it onto the bar. She really needed one of those big giant straws that came in those fancy frozen drinks.

"Him. Over there." Lana grabbed Quinn by the shoulders and turned her around to face whatever had caught her friend's attention.

"Oh, him." She took a deep draw of the punchlike drink, only there wasn't a bit of punch in it. Not the fruit kind anyway.

"Yeah, him." Lana dragged out him like she was sucking on a maraschino cherry and enjoying the sweetness on her tongue.

Quinn didn't even take a good look. Men were on her shit list at the moment. She didn't care how hot they were. The potent drink in her hands was all the company she needed. She smiled into her glass; it was the best date she'd had in a while.

Another pink taffeta blur whizzed up to them, out of breath.

"Jeez Louise. Did you see that hunk of man meat?" Paula, another victim of the wedding fashion nightmare, was flushed and had a bead of sweat running down her chipmunk-like cheeks. "Do you think he's single?"

Quinn raised one shoulder in a half shrug and turned back to the bar. It was bad enough when the three of them had to stand next to each other at the altar, then throughout the grueling pictures, followed by having to sit beside each other at the head table. All in that awful pink froth. But now that it was all over, and they had done their duty for their friend Gina, there was no reason they all had to stand there looking like someone threw up Pepto-Bismol.

She leaned into the bar and asked the semicute bartender the time. When he answered that it was six, she gritted her teeth. They had only been at the reception for an hour. It was way too early to bail.

Damn.

With a sigh, she turned back to her friends. They were still ogling the male eye candy across the room.

Paula's sigh drifted over her. "I wonder if he likes women with a little meat on their bones."

A little meat? She opened her mouth to correct Paula, but shut it quickly. Her friend didn't need to be on the receiving end of her miserable mood.

"Quinn, I bet he'd make you forget Peanut."

Quinn winced and took another long draw from her drink. She loved the flavor and the tanginess on her tongue. And she was trying to forget Peanut. She hated the nickname her friends had called her ex-boyfriend, Peter. Once they had actually called him Peanut in front of his face -- by accident, of course. Right. It had taken her a while to brush that one under the rug. He had never liked her friends after that.

On the other hand, her friends had never liked Peter from the beginning. Unlike her parents, who loved the bastard. Probably more than they loved her.

"Yeah, Quinn, he could probably fuck your brains out, and you'd never remember that douche again."

Quinn frowned at Paula. She noticed her friend's string of pearls hiding in the skin around her neck. Quinn's hands automatically went to her neck to finger a similar necklace -- a part of the stupid wedding costume. Ugh. She hated pearls!

She hated taffeta. She hated pink. She hated frilly dresses.

She took a long swig from her glass.

And she hated Peter. The asshole.

His gift to her last Valentine's Day wasn't an engagement ring. Oh no, after five long, wasted years of dating the shit, he couldn't have gotten her a ring. Nope. Instead he sent her a text message.

That was it.

A stupid little text message. One line.

We've grown apart and I've found someone new.

She deserved more than that. Something better. After all those years of loyalty, standing by his side, being the "good, proper" girlfriend. As Peter had expected. As her parents had expected. The girlfriend any decent man would want on his arm. Right?

Not even a sorry. Not even an explanation. Nothing.

And the next day, FedEx had delivered a box with all the things she had left over at his apartment during the last half decade.

Quinn emptied her glass and turned back to the bar, blocking out her friends' chattering over that man.

She needed another man like she needed a hole in the head.

She slid her glass over the bar top, and before she could ask for another, a deep voice washed over her.

"Put her next drink on me."

Dumb ass. The drinks are on the house. She turned to ream whoever it was, and stopped. Her mouth opened, but nothing escaped.

"You look like a fish out of water with your mouth hanging open like that." When he smiled, the lines around his eyes crinkled. He was tan, an outdoorsy tan, not a manmade one. And he had beautiful green eyes. Shit. She had never seen such beautiful eyes on a man. His nose was a little crooked, like it had been broken, and it made him even more beautiful. No. Not beautiful. He was. He was.

Quinn closed her mouth and swallowed hard. He was so unperfect, he was perfect. His hair was a dark brown with natural highlights, more proof he liked being outdoors. It was long and pulled back into a neat ponytail.

She hated long hair on men. But it was right on him.

He had a beard that wasn't a beard. It was like a longer five-o'clock shadow.

She hated facial hair.

He had a strong, corded neck that disappeared into a stiff dress shirt. The collar had been already released and one more button undone below that. The knot of his tie was loose and hung crookedly from around his neck.

The sleeves of his crispy white shirt were rolled up to his elbows, and his forearms were tan covered in dark hair. His hands.

Oh. Damn.

His hands were large. They were working hands. They weren't soft and pampered. But calloused and thick and strong.

Capable. Capable of doing all kinds of things.

Quinn's nipples hardened under the scratchy taffeta.

His hands could do all kinds of dirty, nasty things.

Things Peter had never wanted to do.

Quinn ripped her gaze from him and spun back around to the bar, bracing herself against it for a second to catch her breath. She grabbed her fresh drink and took a gulp.

"Whoa. Slow down there."

She pressed the cold drink against her forehead in an attempt to cool herself off.

She needed to go change her panties, she was so freaking wet.

She could feel his heat next to her; his body was like a furnace. She wanted to plant her hands on his chest and feel how hot he really was. Her fingers convulsed around her glass.

"Are you okay?" The deep timbre of his voice sent a shot of lightning down her body, landing right in her pussy.

Quinn could only nod her answer.

He palmed her bare shoulder and turned her to him. He stared down into her eyes, his lips widening into a smile.

His lips. Oh man. Those lips probably could do all sorts of things to her, with her. Lips that were made for more than kissing.

"Yes." Oh my God, she thought. That was the kind of yes she blurted when she was in the midst of an orgasm. At least from what she could remember. It had been so long since she'd come.with a partner, anyway.

She felt the heat crawl up her neck, and she stepped back, breaking the contact.

"I.I'm fine." She cleared her throat. "Thank you for the drink." She took another sip before raising the glass to him in thanks.

"It was nothing." When he laughed, her knees almost buckled. "Enjoy it."

He stepped away and then paused. But it looked as though he thought better of whatever he was contemplating, and he continued on his way.

Quinn leaned back against the bar and let out a shaky breath.

She was suddenly flanked on either side by her friends. She had been so distracted, she hadn't even realized that they disappeared.

"Quinn --"

"Quinn!"

"Oh. My. God!"

"I told you he was hot!"

"Oh! I wish I weren't married already."

"I wish he liked chubby chicks."

Quinn couldn't take any more. She raised her palms in surrender. "Stop. Enough."

"But, Quinn --"

"But nothing," Quinn answered Paula.

"You're just going to let him walk away?"

"Paula, he isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately I'm not going anywhere. We have to be here for two more hours, at least."

Lana said, "Are you going to let Peter ruin the rest of your life? All men aren't assholes like him."

Quinn harrumphed and took another sip of her slammer.

"Why don't you at least dance with him?"

"No."

"Why not?" Lana asked.

Why not? Because if she did, she might come right on the dance floor? Because she might end up in a puddle of her own juices? The picture in her head shocked her: it was of her lying in a heap in the middle of the dance floor in the throes of an orgasm. Surrounded by all the wedding guests.

This drink was stronger than she thought.

"Because no one is dancing yet."

"Sure they are. Look."

Quinn glanced over at the area cleared for dancing, and sure enough, a crowd of people were out there shaking their groove thing. Quinn had been too busy trying to get her drink on to notice.

From the looks of the participants on the dance floor, a few of them had been partaking in the open bar also. Even the bride and her new husband were bouncing and shimmying in the crowd.

At least they were a happy couple.

Quinn took another drink.

Lana frowned at her. "Are you just going to drink tonight, or are you going to do something about your situation?"

"Situation? What situation?"

"Getting laid."

Quinn checked over her shoulder to see if the bartender was listening. He was. He had a big grin plastered on his face. Great.

The father of the bride came up and asked for a gin and tonic. While he was waiting, he turned to them. "Hi, girls. Enjoying yourselves? You look great in those dresses. My wife picked them out."

Oh joy. Quinn would have to remember to smack -- she meant thank -- her. She couldn't wait to rip the scratchy, ugly piece of shit off.

All three women gave him a smile but bit their tongues. Eventually he wandered away, and Lana and Paula jumped right back to harassing her. Good thing they were her friends.

"C'mon. It's not going to hurt to have a one-night stand. Look at him."

"I already saw him." Holy moley, she knew they meant well, but they were getting on her last nerve.

"Yeah, and we saw how you were drooling too."

She had not drooled. Her hand automatically went up to her mouth.

Paula said, "He probably isn't interested in you anyway."

"Yeah, you couldn't get someone like that. You attract losers like Peter," Lana said.

If they thought their reverse psychology was going to work, well, it wasn't.

"Looks like he's with Paige Reed, anyway."

Quinn's gaze shot over to the corner of the ballroom where the tall man stood next to the petite, dark-haired beauty. Paige Reed. Figures.

"I thought Paige was dating Connor Morgan," Quinn mumbled.

She must have mumbled loud enough, because Lana answered her. "She is. Connor had to fly to Australia for something to do with his job."

"So why is she with him?" Quinn asked. Why was she so curious all of a sudden? Why did she care?

She didn't. She nursed her drink. After one and a half Alabama slammers, she was starting to feel pretty tipsy. She wasn't used to drinking. And when she did drink, she usually had wine, not hard liquor, and especially not such a hard-hitting mix of liquors.

Paula leaned into the both of them and said in an exaggerated whisper, "Maybe he's an escort," like it was a scandal, and then laughed.

Maybe he was an escort.

He was probably worth every penny too.

His back was to them now, but that just gave Quinn the opportunity to study how broad those shoulders were in his dress shirt. When he moved, the fabric bunched and pulled with his muscles.

Lana gasped, jerking Quinn out of her thoughts. "He's not an escort! That's Logan Reed, Paige's brother. I haven't seen him since we were kids. Holy shit, did he grow up."

"I'll say." Paula agreed. "Quinn, I dare you to go ask him to dance."

"Not interested."

Lana joined in. "Yeah, I dare you too. Don't be a wuss."

If she were a wuss, she wouldn't have come out in public in this pink atrocity. And the matching shoes were killing her feet. The last thing she needed was to be dancing. She'd be crippled.

"That's a double dare, you know, with the two of us daring you.."

Oh, boy, a double dare. She would definitely do it now -- not. "You're crazy."

"No, you are, if you pass up this opportunity. "

"How do you know he's available?" Quinn asked them.

"You don't know until you ask him," Lana said. "But if I remember correctly, his wife left him a while ago. There had been some rumors."

There had been some rumors about her and Peter too, but rumors were just that: rumors. She didn't take any stock in them.

Paula suddenly shouted, "Truth or dare?" making Quinn jump. It was like they were teenagers all over again.

Lana quickly said, "Truth." And bounced on her toes like she was fifteen.

Jesus, would someone please put a bullet in my head? Quinn needed to be put out of her misery.

Paula asked Lana, "Do you shave or wax?"

"Shave. Okay, Quinn, your turn. Truth or dare?"

Quinn was not playing this juvenile game. It was stupid; she was not going to fall into what was clearly a trap.

"Truth."

"How bad was Peter in bed?" Lana asked.

Damn. She wasn't going to answer that one. Even as drunk as she was. She didn't want to relive their vanilla, boring lovemaking. And she definitely didn't want to admit it or talk about it.

There was only one thing left for her to do.

The Bachelor Drinking Game

This is a game that was passed on to me. I can't play it because I would have to be drunk to watch The Bachelor in the first place!

Warning - I cannot be held responsible for any alcohol poisoning that may occur!

Take a shot/(or sip) when:

1.Whenever a bachelorette cries -- fake tears = sip
-- real tears = shot
2. Whenever a bachelorette claims to be in love. This should be a sliding scale decreasing as the episodes go by. Episode 2 full shot, by the end, a wee dram
3. Whenever a bachelorette says something that will be used as evidence to issue the restraining order against her = shot
4. Whenever someone claims that "I am not here to make friends" = shot
5. When it is announced that the rose ceremony is THE.MOST.DRAMATIC.EVER = sip
6. Whenever the bachelor is very confused about his choice = shot
7. Whenever a bachelorette rolls her eyes (better make that one a wee dram)
8. Whenever a bachelorette is drunk (sip)
9. Whenever the bachelor is drunk (shot -- unless he turns out to be like Charlie then we better make it a sip - I almost needed a liver transplant that season)
10. Whenever Mr. Obvious (Chris) announces that it is the last rose (sip)

NEW RELEASE! Double Dare at Loose Id

Today is release day for my first m/m/f interracial menage a trois, Double Dare from Loose Id!

What could be better than waking up next to a hot guy? Waking up sandwiched between two of them.

Quinn Preston, a financial analyst, is not happy when her friends dare her to pick up a handsome stranger at a wedding reception. What better reason to give up men when her previous long-term relationship had not only been lackluster in the bedroom but he had cheated.

Logan Reed, a successful farmer and business owner, can’t believe that he’s attracted to the woman in the ugly, Pepto-Bismol colored bridesmaid dress. And to boot, she’s more than tipsy. After turning down her invitation for a one-night stand, he finds her in the parking lot, too impaired to drive. He rescues her and takes her home. His home.
The next morning Quinn’s conservative life turns on its ear when Logan introduces her to pleasures she never even considered before. And to make things more complicated, Logan already has a lover…

Tyson White, ex-pro football player and Logan’s business partner, is completely in love with Logan. He has mixed emotions when Logan brings home Quinn. But the dares keep coming and things heat up with the three of them. Nevertheless Ty wonders: will adding Quinn to the mix end up enhancing or destroying Logan’s and his relationship?

Double Dare is an interracial ménage a trois (m/m/f) erotic romance that is sexually explicit, including light BDSM, anal sex, homosexuality, multiple partners, role playing and more.

Rip Cord by Jeanne St. James
1st Exciting Month!

Gil Davis hated high school. Ever the geek, he has no intention of attending his 10th year class reunion. The last thing he wants is to relive the taunting and teasing he received during his teenage years. However, there is one thing he missed from high school: the star Varsity football player. The one he had a crush on since the first day he laid his eyes on him.

The last thing he expects is the now pro football player to come back to their home town to attend a lame high school reunion. Known as the Bad Boy of the NFL, Ripley “Rip” Cord, not only shows up, but shows up without a date and an eye for Gil.

Excerpt:
CHAPTER FOUR

The smell of stale sweat mixed with athletic socks assaulted Gil’s nostrils as he followed Rip through the door.

Rip hit the switch, flooding the locker room with harsh fluorescent light.

Dizziness rocked Gil as the nightmarish memories returned in full force.

“I’m not so sure…” he began, but the rest of the words caught in his throat.

“What,” Rip prodded, clearly not noticing the beads sweat forming on Gil’s forehead and upper lip.

As they weaved their way through the aisles of gym lockers and wooden benches, Gil wondered what the point of coming into the locker room was. They could have stopped at any restroom throughout the hallways for Gil to clean up.

“I’m sure you have a better memory of this room than I do.”

“Well, this was my second home.” Rip continued to wind through the lockers without even looking back. “Still is.”

“I’m sure.” Gil studied Rip’s legs as they moved farther into the room. He imagined those legs, the corded muscles of his thighs and calves, encased in the snug Lycra of his uniform pants.

Rip stopped and turned suddenly, a fierce expression on his face. Gil bit back a surprised yelp.

“Gil, I want you to feel comfortable with me. I know how much everyone played tricks and jokes on you.”

“Why… Why didn’t you come to my rescue?” Gil cursed himself for letting his disappointment be so recognizable in his voice.

Rip looked away. Good. Let him be uncomfortable. Rip’s small pang of guilt now could not compare to what Gil had gone through then.

“I had a reputation to uphold. I was a tough football player. I was captain of our team. I was someone the guys looked up to.” He blew out a harsh breath, dragging a hand through his hair. “Wrongly so.”

Gil studied him for a moment. “Why, Rip? Why was that more important? Why couldn’t you have stepped up and told them to stop?” Gil’s voice caught. “Do you know how many times I was stuffed into a locker? Do you how many times I received a wedgie? Do you know how many times I was dumped into the bin of wet, dirty towels?” Tears burned Gil’s eyes. But he refused to break down. He was a man now, not that weak, confused teenage boy.

“I know. I’m sorry.” Rip clenched and unclenched his fists, which were held stiffly by his side. “I feel I still have a reputation to live up to. I’m the Bad Boy of the NFL. That’s who I am. Who I’m expected to be. I don’t know how to be anyone else.”

Gil was almost afraid to ask, but he asked it anyway, “Can you be yourself with me?”

Rip spun away and continued through the locker room. “I don’t know. Sometimes I just don’t know myself anymore.”

A show of weakness, a break in Rip’s hard exterior was one more mind-blowing occurrence tonight. And the night wasn’t over yet.

A sudden, overwhelming urge to be completely naked with Rip came over Gil. He would love nothing more to have sex with him properly. In a bed. Not rushed. With cuddling time afterwards. Gil had a feeling that cuddling and Rip just didn’t go together. His display of affection would be more like pat on the back or even a smack on the backside.

“It was in this room I realized how much I liked men.”

His softly spoken confession caught Gil off guard. “Really? I’m sure that went over well with your teammates.”

Rip shot a glance behind him at Gil, his face grim. “They didn’t know.”

Rip finally stopped in front of the large cavernous shower room. Shower heads lined all three tiled walls and several large drains dotted the floor.

Gil had never wanted to shower after gym class. He never was brave enough to bare himself in front of his schoolmates. He had been skinny and lanky back then. He had worked hard over the years to develop some muscle and weight. He would never be as built as Rip or one of his fellow football players. But with weight gainer and some working out, he had matured enough to have some lean muscle and was no longer so self-conscious of his body.

At least none of his former lovers had pointed and laughed.

“Anyway, I know what you went through. It’s too late to do anything about that now. But it’s not too late to make a new memory here. A better one.”

A better memory? Here?
