Blurb-

With rock-hard fortitude, Marohka Taunton battles to maintain her position as top mineralogist and refuses to see why she should marry even if the law requires she take a mate. Fighting her attraction for Stihl Fermesium, she struggles to save her father’s company.

Stihl, determined to win her as his mate, is faced with the commission deal of a lifetime and needs the money to save his family land. He wrestles with her emotional resistance and discovers someone other than Marohka is unhappy about their union. In fact, they want to separate them in the most basic of ways, death.
Excerpt-

Staring straight ahead, Marohka Taunton avoided eye contact with every man she passed. Moving along the edge of the dance floor, she wove her way back and forth across the assigned path. Her steps, jerky and clumsy, she hid her natural smooth gait. No man, in his right mind, craved an ungraceful wife. At least, she hoped not.

With the stairs a few steps ahead, she tasted victory and allowed herself a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."

A masculine voice in front of her chuckled. "It’s not over yet, princess."

Marohka paused to inspect the stranger. The laughter reflected in his warm brown eyes—surprised, the intelligent focus—intrigued, and the dark spark of interest—captivated.
A foreign response slithered through her chest. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach. Her heartbeat rang in her ears. Her hands turned clammy. Awareness of the man claimed her senses.

His face, framed by dark brown hair, showed rough lines of strength and fortitude. A crooked nose, a square jaw, and a chiseled chin marked his unique personality. Added together, the sum indicated the man rarely backed down from a fight. He’d stand up for his beliefs and defeat his opponents. His lopsided grin with a dimple at the corner of his mouth teased her.

A silly feature on such a stern face. The little mark claimed her heart and spoke of a rare sense of humor, a trait absent in most men.

A tingle ran down her spine. Her toes curled. Either as an appealing partner or a worthy adversary, the man presented a dangerous combination. Right then, without question, Marohka decided never to cross paths with him again.

"It is for me," she responded to his comment. She lifted her chin a little higher and repaired the chip in her armor with a sassy comeback. "But you’re welcome to any of the girls behind me. I’m sure they’ll enjoy your charm."

Marohka lifted her skirt and swept up the stairs. The sound of his laughter spoiled her intended snub.

Alitus, Tales of the Chosen by Kayelle Allen

Alitus, Tales of the Chosen by Kayelle Allen

Passion. Addiction. Loyalty. Can true love bare its heart forever?

2007 Top Ten Finalist in P&E Readers Poll, best novel

Alitus Vivaldi is a Better, an enhanced human. He moves from the Conqueror's favorite pleasure slave to her personal assistant by learning the key to her heart is passion, love, and loyalty. When political upheaval forces the Conqueror to strip her favorite of his freedom and rights, Alitus forsakes his identity and pride, surrendering himself to his darkest fears. But will what he becomes save the Tarthian Empire and its Conqueror, or rock them both to their crumbling core?

Content: Graphic sex, light bondage, F/F/M menage, M/M sex, male submission, multiple partners, voyeurism, and some damn fine sex in a sleek flying limousine...
******

In this scene from Alitus, Tales of the Chosen, Empress Rheyn Destoiya and her assistant, Alitus Vivaldi have had a misunderstanding regarding a member of her Stable, a group of men she keeps to satisfy her raging sexual desires. Immortal, she is rarely able to find sexual fulfillment among mortals, except with her Chosen Alitus, whose pheromones can both excite and calm her.

What are the Chosen? A secret group which serves an immortal Sempervian and is:

Called to serve
Honored to protect
Obedient to the vow
Safeguards of the truth
Enablers of life
Neutralizers of threats

---
Conqueror's Palace, Alitus Vivaldi's Quarters

"I owe you an apology, Alitus. I've asked far too m-much of you. You have every right to be f-furious with m-me." She averted her face and turned away. *I am the empress, for God's sake! I have to control myself.* Yet, facing his anger, she stammered like an awkward girl ending a bad first date. She clenched both fists. *Get hold of yourself!*

Behind her, she heard every ragged breath her lover took. Her own heart hammered. *Get it over with, Rheyn. Be the Conqueror.* She whirled to face him. "You've never withheld anything from me except your anger and I've taken every advantage I could. It's been all too easy for me to take you for granted. It was terrible of me to abuse you in such a way, Alitus. I only meant for Rudolf to fill in for you at my side when you had other things to do. He was to be a decoy. Nothing more. I--shouldn't have surprised you like that."

She'd allowed him to rage at her as if she were no more than his doxy, and all she could think to do was stoop and pick up her gloves. He, above all people, didn't deserve her anger. She drew the gloves across the palm of her hand.

"Alitus." She could not bring herself to make eye contact with him. "I--I'm sorry." She hurried toward the door.

"Rheyn!"

Brought up short by his use of her first name--an intimacy he rarely allowed himself--she turned back. By some trick of the light, his blond hair glowed, its paleness diffused further by her tears. Stripped of his usual jacket, his plain dress shirt shone like white fire.

She waited for him to say something further.

Arms out at his sides, Alitus stood there, his submissive stance echoing her own futility. He sank to his knees, one hand over his eyes.

Destoiya hastened back to his side and knelt, gathered him in her arms. "Oh, Alitus. My love. My love..." She pushed her fingers through his silken hair, cradling his head against her.

"Oh, God, Rheyn." He lifted his tear-stained face to hers, shaking his head, the bloody whites making his eyes a brilliant blue. Wetness turned his blond lashes into dark, spiky points. "I'm so sorry. Please, please, don't leave me."

"I couldn't leave you, Alitus. I could never leave you." She drew him close and pressed his head against her shoulder.

Day in and out she relied so heavily on this man it slipped her mind how much she truly loved him. He was all man, grown from that sweet, virgin youth she'd fallen in love with. Where had the years gone? Over like a quick snap of her fingers.

Alitus sucked in a deep breath, shuddering. "I had no right to be angry with you."

"Shh." She kissed his wet cheek, dried his tears with her fingers. "Of course, you did, love. I pushed you far too hard."

Too late, she felt the result of the pheromones in his tears. Comforting him brought her under the chemical spell of his pheromones as easily as if he'd released them into the room. Heat bloomed within her as if they'd spent hours in foreplay. Droplets of sweat formed on her brow and between her breasts. Her mouth went dry.

She clenched a fist across her stomach. "Alitus..."

He pulled back, confusion on his face. Guilt transformed it. "Oh, no. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean t..."

"It's all right," she whispered.

Every Sempervian bore a blessing and a curse--her curse doomed her to a torment of sexual desire few human men could ever extinguish alone. A nightmare of unquenchable lust that wracked her days and turned her nights into bouts of perversion and twisted sexual escapades. Anything to escape the fire burning within her. A keening fire that allowed her no dignity. No shame. No rest. And Alitus--one of the few who could soothe her maddening heat--could also spike it unbearably with a single touch.

She stood on shaky legs and staggered, caught in her long hem.

Alitus rose and swept her into his arms. "Let me love you, Rheyn. Let me give you peace."

She tilted back her head, accepting his kiss, arms wrapped around his neck. Hot blood thundered through her veins, scorching her inside. Used to commanding her lovers, submission did not come easy. In her heart she knew he needed to dominate her tonight, take her, prove to himself she was his. Knew he needed to take her in *his* bed. Not hers.

He entreated her with kisses and swept his tongue inside her mouth. She moaned into his, sucking at his tongue, opening wide to coax him inside. Destoiya mated with his mouth, his honeyed taste bringing to mind a sweet brandy. Intoxicating. Lush. Like him.

He nipped at her chin and throat.

A sob rose within her. Destoiya nestled against him as Alitus carried her from the room. His firm arms drew her in, held her fast against his muscled chest. His scent, a mix of apricot and peach when he was aroused, drifted to her. She inhaled, taking his pheromones deeper, deeper, right into her soul.

"I need you, Alitus. I want you inside me. Take me. Love me..."

"Yes, Rheyn. Yes. I love you." He kissed her, a wild coupling of mouth and tongue that left her breathless.

The simplicity of his bedroom--a big bed, a chair, bedside tables--underscored his elegance. The physical beauty of Alitus the Better fit here. The brocades and tapestries suited his golden hair, ocean-blue eyes and perfectly sculpted face. The heart of Alitus the Man wooed her, won her, whether they shared a palace or a hovel.

"Rheyn," he whispered her name as he set her on her feet beside the bed. "I love you. I will take care of you. Trust me."

He pulled down the golden brocade covers, baring the sheets. He knelt and wrapped one hand around her ankle.

"Put your hand on my shoulder." He steadied her as he helped her step from her shoes. Rising, he made short work of her dress's fasteners and let it fall to the floor.

She stood before him naked except for panties and necklace, the heat between her legs making her writhe. "I want you, Alitus. I need you so. Please, hurry..."

"I am, love." Using both hands, he peeled her panties down her legs, squatting to take them off her. "I'll take care of you. Satisfy you. I promise." The warmth of his breath against her mound made her shiver with anticipation.

He scooped her up and laid her gently on the bed. Its cool sheets against her heated skin soothed. Lying beside her fully dressed, he propped himself up to gaze down at her. Alitus took her chin in one hand and tilted her face to his as he bent for a lingering kiss that made her arch against him.

The rapture in his tender touch inflamed her. Alitus was desire embodied in a male form that had been designed for beauty and created for exquisite pleasure. Destoiya intended to plunder his passion until she had her fill of him. She spread her legs wide, inviting him without a word.

"You are so beautiful, Rheyn." His golden lashes lowered as he took in her body. He slid his fingers between her labia and stroked her, making her arch and cry out. The stark blue of his eyes against their reddened whites spoke of his control, his insistence on caring for her first.

Even in heat like an animal, she recognized his concern for her. She closed her thighs around his hand. "Now, Alitus. Now. Don't make me wait, please!"

She left him no time to respond, but devoured him with kisses born of desperate hunger, wrapping her legs along the length of his. She pulled him atop her and reached between them to free his cock. "Take me, Alitus. Make me yours. Put your scent all over me."

He angled himself above her and put his shaft at the mouth of her pussy. "How many times do you want me to take you, Rheyn?"

"All night, love. All night." She gripped his collar. "Use me. Do me. Get inside me and make me beg."

He rammed into her up to the hilt and stayed there, pressed against her mound. The fullness of him inside her made her groan, greedy for more. His shaft opened her wide. He rocked her, rubbed himself back and forth inside her, pressed against her clit and opened her lips.

She rolled her head from side to side, so lost in passion she could not form words to think. Her lust for Alitus left her unguarded, vulnerable and open. Utter trust in him made her secure.

Alitus slipped an arm beneath one of her thighs as he pulled out, only to slam back in hard enough to make her scream.

"Yes, that's it, love." He rocked into her again. "There's no one here to interrupt us. Scream as loud as you want."

Destoiya braced her arms against the head of the bed and pushed up against him as he slammed into her once more. Her throaty cries erupted as an orgasm shuddered over her. Her ravenous desire demanded more. "Fuck me, Alitus. Take me. Please, please take me. Take me."

"That's right, Rheyn. Cry. Beg." He put his mouth next to her ear. "Who makes you come all night? Who makes you beg?"

"You. You. Only you." She twisted her hands in his hair and yanked his mouth to hers in a wolfish kiss.

Interview with Author Marie Rochelle

Please welcome my guest author Marie Rochelle who has a current release with Red Rose Publishing!

Tell me a little bit about yourself. First, I want to thank you for interviewing me today. I’m Marie Rochelle and I’ve been writing interracial romances for a little over five years now. My first book was Taken by Storm.

Do you use a pseudonym and if so, why? Yes, I use a pen name. I just think it works best for me. I love the freedom it gives to me when I write about my characters.

What genre do you write in? Why did you pick that genre? I write interracial romances. I’ve always loved interracial relationships and thought it would be a wonderful topic to write about.

What inspires you to write the type of stories that you write? My alpha males inspire me to write the stories that I do. Just when I think I might be able to get a break from them and relax with a good book another male pops up in my head and demands I tell his story. (That’s why I’ve so many series. There is no way the Alpha male’s friend isn’t going to get his own HEA!)

• How would you describe your writing style? Plotter or pantser? Why? I think I’m more of a plotter because I like to have a little idea in my head where my story might go, but sometimes the hero or heroine can take it down a totally different road.

What is your favorite genre to READ? I love to read all kinds of books, but I love the contemporary, interracial and romances books the most.

Do you have a specific place where you like to write? When, during the day, is your most creative time? I love to write after Y&R goes off, it’s the one treat I do give myself in the mornings and then I head to my computer to write for a couple of hours until my hungry sets in and I’ve to find something to eat.

What’s your typical writing day? I maybe write for five or six hours a day. Just depends on how much my characters are talking to me. Sometimes the hero has more to say than his woman, so I just go with it and enjoy what I’m doing that day.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers? Why? I’ve critique partners because we work well together.

Who give you the most support along in your writing? I’ve to say my family and my fans are my best support system.

What’s your take on the future of ebooks and epublishing? I believe that ebooks and epublishing are going to become hotter and hotter in the future because of the ease ebooks give to fans.

Do you have a favorite quote -- yours or someone famous or even infamous? If you don’t love yourself, how can you expect to love someone else.

What’s your favorite food? I love pears w/ peanut butter. It’s my favorite snack in the world.

What’s your favorite movie? Why? I love Imitation to Life.

Do you have a favorite book or author? I enjoy so many authors, it’s hard to pick a favorite one

Tell me about your latest or upcoming release? My current release is Love Play (sequel to Pamper Me). It’s from Red Rose Publishing. It involves Spencer and Nicey’s best friends Ben Forster and Rishelle Damian.

Do you have any releases scheduled for 2010? I’ve several upcoming books. This month I’ve the print release of Desire and Lucky Charms in one book called Lucky Desire from Phaze Books. I also have So Much Better (Sequel to Desire) coming out from Phaze Books in March. In addition, The Men of CCD: Help Wanted (Keira Winters and Jim Russell) story in the final book of the series. I’m also working on the last books in the Tycoon Club Series and The Drace Brothers series, plus a few single titles.

What’s your next project? I’m hoping to start another series this year and maybe outline a couple more single titles.

Where can readers find you on the web? Readers can find me at several places on the web. Here’s my website: www.freewebs.com/irwriter/. My publishers: http://www.redrosepublishing.com/, http://www.phaze.com/, http://www.cobblestone-press.com/. Also readers can email me at marierochelle2@yahoo.com

Ben Forster always gets what he wants…..and without a doubt; he wants the sexy Rishelle Damian back in his life. But there’s one problem she hates him and doesn’t want anything to do with him. She has made that loud and clear time and time again.

Ben, however, can’t erase how good they were together from his mind or his heart. Since he is known as a man never to give up easily; he is going to work night and day to get Rishelle back into his life….
Rishelle Damian wasn’t about to give the guy who broke her heart another chance. Ben must be out of his mind. They haven’t seen each other in forever. What makes him think he is still even a thought in her mind? She’s about to tell him to go to hell….until Ben invites her to spend a month with him.

Excerpt:

Live bait made all the difference, pretty much a no-brainer. If the prey hungered, it was best to use someone like me.

I needed to attract my quarry’s attention so I dressed outside the Budapest nightlife norm. The beautiful, exotic eastern European women filled the place with their form fitting, dark clothes and smoky make-up. This fashion did not complement my five foot, two inch, olive skinned, 'holy cow she's got curves' frame.

Instead, I tousled my shoulder-length, dark-blond curls and applied a little lip gloss. The high-waisted, filmy white dress, which possessed a neckline low enough I had better not sneeze, with the silver stiletto heels, made me a beacon. Time I hooked me a monster and reeled him in.

The popular nightclub jammed, and on any other night I’d be having a great time, but the crush of people made it difficult to spot anyone. Even with heels I'd have trouble seeing Rurik. I twisted and swung my hips to the pounding music as I grooved across the sunken dance floor. Tables stood around the edges so the patrons could watch.

I should have shimmied instead of turned when someone's elbow made contact with my forehead. Flailing, I tottered on my heels, tripped over someone’s foot, and landed on the empty staircase.

Legs sprawled, white dress twisted too high and pulled too low, I gripped my throbbing head in surprise as the world spun. I was the picture of American class abroad.

A shadow blocked out the colored lights reflecting off the mirrored walls. It distracted me from my revealing predicament. Large, strong hands grasped my shoulders. I gazed up and my heart raced.

Rurik. The target I had hunted for in every ruin-club, open-air party, and disco in Budapest. A delicious, hunky, make-me-swoon vampire.

He lifted me to my stiletto-laden feet.

Most people don't believe in vampires, thinking them myth or legend. I know otherwise. My job comprised of luring these monsters to their executioner.

I was bait.

Rurik said something in Hungarian.

Tourists had a better grasp on the language than I did. I shook my head. “English?” My heart hammered faster than the music's beat. I’d searched weeks for him and he found me, I couldn't have planned a better scenario.

His cold, arctic, eyes bore into mine. Even with me wearing heels he towered over me. I couldn't help but admire his dark, slicked back hair, exposing fine sculpted cheekbones, a narrow face, and a set of full lush lips--all male and very tasty.

Once assured I could stand on my own, he released me, and brought my hand to his mouth to brush those lush lips against my knuckles. “You're an unexpected treasure, my angel,” he translated over the loud music.

“Thanks.” I’d lost hope of ‘bumping’ into him and just complied with Colby’s--my employer’s--routine orders. Seduce him into following me to the hotel room close by where they waited.

Vampire or not, he provoked a forbidden lust. I was still a woman, after all.

Rurik belonged on the cover of GQ. His black Italian suit contrasted nicely with his white dress shirt and pale skin, tailored to fit his athletic build. Everything about him was simple and elegant.

Everything except the ring on his left pinky finger. A gold antique, with a rock set in it big enough to choke on. Only the Overlord of a city could wear such a ring. It symbolized his power--like a king's crown.

His hand trailed up my arm, to touch the thin, white fabric of my dress. He said something but the music drowned him out. I didn't really need to hear him. The hunger in his eyes told me everything. He liked me.

“Do you still want to dance?” He shouted and gestured to the packed floor.

“No, I think I should quit while I'm ahead.” I pointed to my forehead, where a welt throbbed with my racing heart.

He chuckled. “Then let me buy you a drink. My name is Rurik.” His grasp tightened on my arm as he led me away from the dance floor. The corners of his mouth lifted into a small pleasant smile as he turned from me. It wouldn't do to flash fang and scare dinner away.

13 Quotes about Love in honor of Valentines Day!

13 Love Quotes:

Since Valentine's Day is on Sunday... here are some quotes about LOVE:

1. "When you are in Love you can't fall asleep because reality is better than your dreams." Dr Seuss

2. Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep.

3. Wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you' re just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have YOU... The one who turns to his friends and says, thats her...

4. "I love you, not for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you." Roy Croft

5. "Love is as much of an object as an obsession, everybody wants it, everybody seeks it, but few ever achieve it, those who do will cherish it, be lost in it, and among all, never... never forget it." Curtis Judalet

6. "Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, Pain of love lasts a lifetime." Bette Davis

7. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a teardrop.

8. "Love is a promise, love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear." John Lennon

9. "Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly." Rose Franken

10. Love - a wildly misunderstood although highly desirable malfunction of the heart which weakens the brain, causes eyes to sparkle, cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise and the lips to pucker.

11. "Love is much like a wild rose, beautiful and calm, but willing to draw blood in its defense." Mark Overby

12. "A woman has got to love a bad man once or twice in her life to be thankful for a good one." Mae West

13. "Sometimes your nearness takes my breath away; and all the things I want to say can find no voice. Then, in silence, I can only hope my eyes will speak my heart." Robert Sexton

So what are YOUR plans for Valentine's Day? Both my husband and I have off together (that's a miracle) but we don't have any plans YET...

DOUBLE DARE is a bestseller at Loose Id and gets a GREAT REVIEW!

My recent release DOUBLE DARE is #3 Bestseller at the publisher's site,
Loose Id, in it's first month release!

It's also just got a GREAT REVIEW from You Gotta Read Reviews:

"This story was a wonderful read at times it pulls on your heartstrings while at others it lifts the reader up with the love that is shared between all the characters. Quinn is a strong woman who is tired of living a lie. She wants to be her own person, to be able to live and love the one she sees fit. As she struggles to understand her feelings for both Logan and Tyson she begins to loose her inhibitions and her heart. Logan and Tyson are a great pair of Alpha Males both understanding and willing to let the other lead when needed. Both men begin to fall in love with Quinn and are willing to let her into their world. The bond of love and trust that forms between the three is a great read. One only wishes that they had one person to share something like that with let alone two. Jeanne St. James writes a compelling story keeping the reader entertained from start to finish. With it’s great characters and hot scenes this book does not disappoint and should be on many a readers to be read lists."

Banished Scoundrel by Anita Philmar

Banished Scoundrel

Excerpt:

The sweet fragrance of honey-suckle filtered through his senses. Did she crush the delicate petals against her skin or sprinkle the pollen in her hair? Moreover, where could she find the springtime flowers at this time of year?

“Have you dropped off your stipend for the game tomorrow?” She laid her finely, manicured hand on his arm. The dainty touch sent sparks of awareness through him, and his cock swelled. “The governor likes to put all the money in his strongbox for safekeeping before the party begins.”

Jack reined in his desire and reminded himself of his primary objective—to transport the lady back to Ardenia.

However, he liked Sloan’s clever rule. If a man didn’t contribute the required gold coins to the game, the governor shouldn’t waste resources entertaining him. “No, I can’t say that I have. I arrived just a few moments ago.”

“Then let me show you to the study, and I’ll fetch you a drink.” She touched his arm again and stepped into the foyer.

He bowed his head slightly and played the unfamiliar part of a refined gentleman. “And you are?”

She fluttered her hand over her face and brushed a wisp of light brown hair from her brow. “The governor calls me Kitty. It’d probably be best if you did, too.”

“What an alluring name? It makes me think of a cat with its lips covered by a luscious coat of cream.” Jack stared at Kitty’s mouth, and his tongue tingled at the idea of tasting her rich, flavorful lust.

She giggled and wove her hand through the crook in his arm. The soft swell of her breast bumped against his arm. “Oh, you’re naughty, but I love the alluring image.”

“Then, I hope you’ll let me have a taste later.” He didn’t crowd her but allowed her to step back. She led him across the entranceway to a door on the other side.

Remember she’s a princess.

Blurb:

Known scoundrel Jack Avery must earn the queen's forgiveness by rescuing her missing daughter from the human world. His sources reveal the Princess Noelani is being held by a powerful man who likes a good game of chance. So with twenty borrowed pieces of gold Jack enters the high-stakes game. Only the lady he encounters is no princess. This pretty Kitty makes him want to hear her purr.

Under a memory spell, Kitty recalls nothing before the governor bought her from her parents and offered her protection from those he claims would kill her kind. So what if, in order to control her, he forces Kitty to morph then deprives her of sexual release after transformation. But the crafty card player she is assigned to “entertain” reveals himself as a kindred spirit—a shape shifter—and unravels the lie she’s been forced to live.

Together Jack and Kitty risk it all, for the stakes are high and the prize is worth it...freedom, forgiveness, love.

Cats Vs. Dogs and why I write Cats by Eliza Gayle

Cats Vs. Dogs and why I write Cats

I’ve always thought of myself as a cat person even though I love lots of animals. I have a hard time resisting any kittens or puppies, and I currently have a dog. A husky which in many ways resembles a wolf. But my real reason for writing cougar shifters first was because of a trip to a Wildlife center here in North Carolina.

I had already decided on cats before then because I find the big kitties wildly beautiful. I love to watch them run. So much power packed into a smallish body. They are deceptively beautiful and whenever we are close to one we instinctively know they are much stronger than us. Combining that power and beauty with human intelligence just made sense to me.

Settling on a cougar took a little more time. I though about Jaguars, leopards, lions, you name it. The setting for this series is in the North Carolina mountains and I wanted to write about an animal you would actually find here. Bobcats are the most prevalent but they are so small and I just couldn’t see my big strapping heroes as overgrown house cats. When in my research I stumbled upon a Native American myth about the elusive Black Cougar here in our mountains everything clicked and I knew where I was headed.

Back to that trip to the Wildlife center. It was cougar day and they were having professionals come in and talk about cougars and answer all your questions. Ha! Little did they know they were about to be bombarded by a romance author. After the presentation I wandered the grounds alternating between the cougars, the black bears and the wolves. These are the predators indigenous to our state and hands down I still wanted to write cougars. Although a big black bear would make a gorgeous and scary shifter as well.

Bottom line I think cougars are sexy and I hope you will as well. Wolves are great but there’s just something about the sleek, powerful look of a cougar on the prowl.

Lucas goes on sale this week at Phaze Books!

Here is the summary:

Kira MacDonald is in trouble. Plagued by false visions and erotic dreams of a man she’s never met, she fears losing both her psychic powers and her sanity. The cure? Finding and bonding with her mate. The stubborn red-haired warrior might not want one, but fate has other plans, plans that include her rescuing Lucas Gunn.

As the Guardian of his shape-shifting clan, Lucas Gunn lived a quiet, solitary life. Until he was kidnapped, examined, and tortured. Now imprisoned, his only tie to the outside world is the memory of his dreams and the passionate woman who appears nightly in them. He thought she was nothing more than a vision. Then she came for him.

An uneasy alliance, a mating call that won’t be denied, rituals that must be honored, and unrelenting enemies who will stop at nothing to get what they want. It all comes together in the first of Eliza Gayle’s sensational Black Cougar Series. Passion and Pride. Duty and Danger. In the end, there’s really only one choice…for Lucas.

“Scorching hot sex and adrenaline pumping life or death action keep the pages turning until you reach the end. A satisfying read, Lucas is the beginning of a series worth getting your hands on…”

Banished Hero by Anita Philmar

Banished Hero

Excerpt:

“Why won’t you eat, Faye Lynn?”

The sound of Havyn’s voice in her head startled her so much she lost her grip and fell forward. She kicked out her wings and glided to the wall between

two abandoned stalls. Her heart pounding, she told herself he couldn’t be anywhere nearby. She must be imagining things.

The other bird might squawk or send her his feelings of unease as a warning, but he couldn’t talk to her in a language she could understand. She glanced around nervously, trying to catch her breath. Havyn wasn’t here. He left her several

hours ago after bringing her home from the market. He probably planned to leave her in the barn for a few days until her father left the area. Then he’d try

to train her to be his pet. She’d gone through the routine before.

“You’re not getting away.” His voice sounded inher head again.

At the same time, the large black falcon swooped down and landed on the wall beside her. The shock of both Havyn’s voice and the bird knocked her off balance. She tumbled onto the hay in one of the stalls. She rolled and tried to right herself, but a large wing covered her chest and held her down.

"Transform Faye Lynn."

His voice, his touch, the familiar scent of him, all hit her senses at once. She stared into his onyx eyes and shifted her shape. Her wings became arms. His beak softened into full lips. Black feathers turned to silky tufts of hair. Legs tangled. A rich scent filled the air. His chest crushed her breasts. The thick length of his sex found its home in her.

Transformation complete, Faye Lynn found herself lying on a bed of hay. Havyn’s weight covered her. His erection pumped heat through her system. She could smell him, taste him and hungered for him more than she ever longed for a man.
Blurb:

With no memory of her past, Faye Lynn Berton clings to a father who curses her ability to shape-shift, then uses her special skill to scam local villagers. The only freedom she knows comes as she soars through the sky in falcon form. A chance meeting with another changling turns her world upside down. Beyond satisfying the powerful sexual cravings that follow transformation, he reveals a surprising dimension of sex between their kind…one to unlock the secrets of her soul.

Havyn Westmore has questions…Faye Lynn holds the answers. Determined to unravel her secrets, he strives to gain her freedom and trust. Teaching her the finer techniques of transformation keeps her close while sex strengthens their bond. But on the trail of discovery, Havyn must confront his own past. Accused of a heinous crime, he was banned from his homeland. Now, he must choose between returning to face certain execution—or robbing Faye Lynn of her birthright and a life in Paradise.

Link: http://eirelander.webs.com/annienicholas.htm

Excerpt:

She handed him a silver foil package, “Here’s a nutrient pack,” then retreated to the bathroom.

A blush burned across her cheeks. He caught her trying to steal. Must be losing her edge. The temptation had seduced her, and the things on his head caught her off guard. Those weak excuses didn’t offer much comfort.

After relieving herself, she stripped and turned the shower on. The hot water pounded on her back. She heard Nual use the facilities. At least their species had that in common and chuckled to herself until the shower door slid open.

“What’s so funny?” He stepped in and hogged the hot water.

Pressed into the corner her laughter died. She crossed her arms over her breasts and sucked in a breath. The water poured over his upturned face, bounced off his broad shoulders, and down his sculpted chest. Was this proper Cyngi behavior? She hated being kept in the dark. For all she knew Cyngi males and females always showered together.

She lowered her arms and allowed herself a peek at his abdomen. Dark blue freckles gathered in the center and trailed down. Did they reach all the way?

He held out the soap. “Can you wash my back?” Then he turned to give her an excellent view of his firm ass.

A little soap went a long way. It spread over his broad shoulders as she scrubbed down the line of his spine. The muscles flexed as he leaned into her hands. His skin felt smooth, and she resisted the urge to use more than her hands to rub against him.

This crossed her professional limits but she didn’t mind. When did she lose her discretion? Probably the moment this luscious piece of blue male flesh walked through the airlock.

Some Liaisons slept with their charges, but this urge never applied to her. Without more info on Cyngi culture, she wouldn’t make the first move. She’d learned from personal experience not to mistake alien mannerisms for flirtation. It could cost her what dignity she had left.

After he rinsed, he took the soap from her hands. “Turn. I’ll wash yours.”

She spun around to face the wall, anxious to feel his large hands. In quick sure strokes, he lathered her skin then kneaded the knots from her shoulders. They melted away and left her feeling like putty.

“You were so tense.” He traced his fingers along the scars between her shoulder blades. They thrilled from his touch. “Claw marks. How does a protected member of the Galactic Liaison get such a scratch?”

“By not running fast enough from a Tegany beast in a Zair desert.”

“I heard of your expedition to Zairan. You should have had a guard detail. The Zair are too aggressive for you to travel alone.”

“None of my guards survived the trip.” The memory hurt enough to steal her voice leaving it a whisper.

He applied soap to her head and scrubbed the tight, short curls of her hair.

“They shouldn’t send you to such places, Sadie. The military should have gone instead.”

It surprised her that he heard her emotionally strangled words over the rushing water as she rinsed her head.

Reluctant to leave his hands, she dragged her body out of the shower.
He followed and accepted the towel she offered him.

“They didn’t send me. I volunteered. The people of Zairan deserve a chance for change. Not all of them are from the warrior clans. Some want a different life.” She twisted away from him.

The frustration and pain caused by the convoluted politics brought tears to her eyes. She’d left behind those people, unable to help them and possibly making things worse.

“They needed a teacher.”

“I’m glad you agreed to my contract instead of going back there.”

“I wasn’t given a choice.” She managed a small smile. “I want to be here and am honored by your request, but my work is incomplete and no one else wants to help.”

The Galactic Liaison office had made it an order to make sure she couldn’t refuse. She never would have denied such an opportunity. The Zair Warlords who had placed a price on her head made the decision to leave Central Station even easier. Sent to the outer edges of space should keep her out of trouble until a solution could be found.

“You want to return?”

“If the Earth Liaison gave up so easily on humans I’d never be standing here.” She glanced down at herself. “Naked.”

“True.”

His chuckle followed her out of the bathroom where she pulled out a camisole and underwear set with the red one-piece suit from under the cot and dressed.

He came from behind and caressed the other scar that went through her left
shoulder. “This is from a blaster. Seems you need to learn to duck faster as well.” His hands stopped her from tugging on the suit any further. “Lay down on the cot. I’ll work out the rest of the knots in your back.”

She pivoted to face him, grasping the half-done suit to her breasts. If only he knew he caused most of those knots.

“Did I offend?” His brow knitted together.

“No.” He scrambled all her internal circuits with his charm. She needed to gather her wits. “Even though I’m a Liaison, I am still human and cannot control all my primal instincts. I’m attracted to you, and the physical contact makes me uncomfortable.”

“No need to feel this way.” He grinned.

But his skin paled to a lighter shade of blue. As he sat on the edge of the bunk she could see his hands trembling.

“There’s something wrong. Are you ill?”

“The nutrient packs were not enough. How long were we in Jump?”

“Two days. What do you think you need?”

“Days?” He rested his head in his hands. The dull hue of his skin made his freckles appear darker. She should have noticed this earlier in the shower. “Can you get me to my storage bin? The one we were going to check on before Jump.”

She knelt next to him to gaze up at his face. A thin sheen of sweat covered his forehead. “I think we should have Kaille take a look at you. She’s the ship medic.”

“What I need is in the bin.”

“Okay, maybe I can bring your stuff here instead of making you move. You look like hell, Nual.”

“No, I have to go there. I have to feed, Liaison.” He stared at her and gave a soft smile. “Please.”

13 Reasons to Eat More Chocolate

13 Reasons to Eat More Chocolate:

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Here's reasons why you shouldn't feel guilty when you eat that box of chocolate you get as a gift...

1. Chocolate is loaded with antioxidant polyphenols. These are those same compounds found in red wine, fruits and vegetables that are touted for their heart-healthy and other disease-preventing qualities.

2. Chocolate is a natural drug. It has been found to contain chemical compounds that stimulate the same receptor sites in the brain as marijuana. (though you'd have to eat WAY too much to get the effect)

3. Chocolate reduces high blood pressure. The flavonoids in cocoa (procyanids) help balance blood pressure and reduce blood clotting.

4. Chocolate can boost your mood. MSNBC reported that caffeine and other chemicals in dark chocolate can improve your mood and ease premenstrual symptoms.

5. Chocolate raises HDL cholesterol and lowers LDL cholesterol. Although the cocoa butter in chocolate is high in saturated fat, a third of that fat comes from stearic acid, which doesn't raise LDL (the bad cholesterol) and instead is converted in the liver to oleic acid, a heart-healthy fat.

6. Chocolate helps ease chronic fatigue syndrome. A study found that adults with chronic fatigue syndrome who eat 1.5 ounces of 85% cocoa dark chocolate were less fatigued after they eat chocolate.

7. Because chocoloate tastes good. No study needed!

8. Chocolate helps me from killing someone when I have PMS.

9. Chocolate contains potassium, magnesium and calcium.

10. Chocolate, particularly dark chocolate and cocoa, contain antioxidants that may help reduce the risk of heart disease.

11. Chocolate may help kick a cough. Theobromine, a chemical in chocolate, is as effective at soothing coughs as codeine, a key ingredient in many prescription meds.

12. Chocolate will help fight cavities. (Believe it or not!) Theobromine may also strengthen teeth better than fluoride, according to Tulane University researchers

13. Finally, chocolate releases the same chemical in our bodies as when we fall in love. Maybe that's why it's given for Valentine's Day!

Ok, did I give you enough excuses to indulge in eating that heavenly candy? Now, what's your favorite type of chocolate. I love Hershey Kisses. How about you?

The Last Vhalgenn by Kayelle Allen

If she takes the newborn prince to the queen's homeland for a ritual blessing in the Old Ways, who--or what--will she bring back?

Scene set up: King Orix escorts his Vhalgenn to her quarters, and remains with her while she bathes. Reared together, there is no modesty between them and at one time, their intimacy as well as being battle companions was legendary. Until, that is, the new queen moved in and kicked the Vhalgenn back to the battlefield. Alone.

===

In what had once been my own room, Orix stripped off my torn doublet and shirt and bit into his lip when he saw the multitude of bruises I'd gained in battle. He brushed his fingers across blue marks on my left shoulder and arm.

"You know me." I laughed, to hide the effect his touch had on me. "Never could be a lady."

I kicked off my boots and dropped my pants before stepping into the copper tub. The steaming water rose around me as I slid down, letting it cover my head. I sat up and scrubbed my hands across my face, then back through my short hair.

Black and tight with curls, it was nothing like my sovereign's wheat colored mane. His fell around his face and onto his shoulders in a splendor of barbaric waves. He might have been an animal, some beast half-tamed, still unruly. His shirt lay open at the throat, with unnumbered ropes of gold gleaming against the curly blond hair of his chest. It was a king's way, wearing jewels in wartime. It might prove to be all a man had if… I shook my head to clear it. This was not the way to think.

He stooped beside the tub and trailed his fingers through the water. "What's wrong?"

I forced a smile. "Just tired." I picked up the soap, reached for the backbrush and punished my skin with its scratchy bristles while he talked.
He told me about his wife, Dahr of Kellindahr, She Whom I Hated With All My Soul and described the help her people had sent in recent days. We'd seen little of their help at the front and I told him.

"I know, Raik." He looked somber. "I wanted it that way. I didn't want her people, my people now, to think I'd married her only for the military advantage we'd gain."

Realizing I stared, I forced a blink. "Why else would you tie yourself to her?"

Eighty years of broken truces, bartered hostages and skirmishes on either side of our mutual borders had been ended by their marriage. Now, a common enemy demanded unity for any of us to survive.

"I know that sounded double-faced, but…"

"Double-faced!" I threw the brush into the water, spraying him. "Orix, if I thought you'd married that witch for love, I'd…" When his head bowed, I bit into my lower lip. After a struggle, I managed to speak without venom. "I swore I wouldn't make war between her and me. You've enough battles to fight. You don't need mine, too."

I got to my feet and stepped out, into the thick robe Orix held for me. Fatigue fluttered at my mind and tongue and I only muttered thanks. His hands supported me when I stumbled. I tied the waist and followed him to the matching chairs where we used to sit in the evenings. The fire crackled and popped. Homesickness gnawed my heart, especially when faithful old Cyken greeted me.

His unfeigned affection and fatherly embrace brought tears to my eyes. He set out a meal of bread, cheese and wine and served me first, against all custom. Orix merely watched, amusement touching his mouth and eyes. Before he left, Cyken reminded me twice to call if I needed anything. Orix stood and went to the fire, hands held out to the flames.

"There's enough for four people." I broke off a hunk of crusty black bread. "Come share."

He returned, nibbling while I gulped, but said little. At last, hunger satisfied and body clean, I leaned back in the chair and lifted a goblet, watching the fire through the deep red wine.

"I'm sorry," I said. "You know. About Dahr. I didn't mean to hurt. You mean more to me than anyone alive."

He reached across and took my hand briefly; fingers interlaced, then folded his hands across his waist and stared into the fire.
"I need her Raik. As much as I needed you."

Needed? I choked back words that anguish hurried to mind. I was as much his chattel as any of his horses. If one person could own another, then I was his, given to him at birth. Why should it hurt if he treated me as such?

"She's in danger of losing the baby."

"Again?" There had been a miscarriage four months after their marriage. "What's wrong this time?" I poured more wine.

"Some woman thing. Her doctors fuss around her bed all day. It's been weeks and she still has to stay on her back. I can't really even see her. All her doctors are from Kellindahr. I don't think she trusts ours."

"This child is crucial, Orix. You need an heir to both lands. If it helps for her to have her own people around her, so much the better."

"Aye." He rambled on about a rallying point and the Kellindahrii people's love for their queen, while I mused over how much time would be lost begetting another heir. It struck me that if Dahr was abed she hadn't met Orix's needs. My throat tightened when I thought of him sleeping alone. I dared not look at the over-sized bed we'd so often shared. Nor did I look straight at him, afraid my rampant feelings would show. There was a war to finish. I'd been foolish to bring the dispatch. Being this close to him…

I flung myself out of the chair and stalked, stiff legged and sore, over to the fireplace and leaned my head against the mantle. Let him go! He's the king. You're a soldier. He'll never be yours. Don't lose your heart over him. Don't do it. Not again.

"I'm sorry," he said, standing. "You're exhausted and here I am prating about my needs." He pulled my hand to his mouth and pressed the palm against his lips.

I pulled my hands away and tucked them behind me.

"What is it, Vhalgenn? What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Raik? What is it?" I knew that tone too well: command. My thoughts skittered.

"Hands," I said.

He leaned closer. "How's that again?"

I felt my cheeks burning. "Hands."

"Hands." He said the word as if it were another language.

"It's nothing, Orix." I stuffed both hands into the pockets of my robe, but immediately knew from his eyes that he had understood.

He held out both his hands. "Give them to me."

I shook my head.

"Now."

I obeyed, fretting.

Taking great pains to scrutinize my hands and nails and fingers, he turned them over, one at a time.

Soldier's hands. Nails bitten or broken off and dirty, even after a bath. Cuticles ragged. Callused palms. The knuckles reddened and chapped. Rough skin overall. The hands of a woman, true, but the hands of a lady like his queen? Never.

"I love you, Vhalgenn." He set the tip of a finger beneath my chin and lifted my face when I tried to turn away. "And your hands. Why do they bother you so much?"

"Because they'll never be pretty like hers." I pressed my lips shut, hating my own mouth for telling him such a ridiculous truth.
His fingers went under my chin, turning my face up to his. "You're more than pretty, Vhalgenn, you're magnificent." He brushed fingertips across my lips.

I held my breath.

"Do you know, she's never once sat in front of the fire with me and talked?"

It had been our nightly ritual. "Never?"

"Never." His hands brushed my hair back from my face. "I've learned to get along with her, Vhalgenn, but I never had to learn anything with you. It all came naturally. We grew up with one another. You were my partner in everything I did. My lover, my sister, my sparring partner, my best friend. My everything."

I lifted my head to look up at him. As I did, his mouth came down on mine. A feverish chill coursed through me at his touch. I'd wanted his mouth from the moment I saw him on that throne. Orix could not help but be languid and sultry and hot. I felt desire emanating from him like heat from an oven with its door ajar. It scorched my face and I drew in a shallow breath, afraid of being burnt.

Resisting him was something I had never done, except in play. He thought I meant it that way now and made as if to pressure me, until he saw my eyes were brimming.

"Please, Orix. Don't." I pushed myself away from him. "I can't."
He frowned, confused. For him, life was simple. A need? Fulfill it. Thirsty? Drink. Hungry? Eat.

"Half the palace must know I'm here. Do you think Dahr will let this go unnoticed? She'll have someone in here to check on me before the night's through and I won't be thrown out again, Orix. I couldn't bear it."

"Vhalgenn, I promise. She'll never know."

"No!" I moved away from him. "She's no fool. She's your queen and deserves more than a husband who sleeps with someone else. She's risking her life to have your child. The least you can do is be faithful."

The look of horror on his face tore out a piece of my heart. Then I realized he was looking past me. His pregnant queen stood in the darkness, right outside my door.
