13 Dr. Seuss Quotes

13 DR. SEUSS QUOTES:

Theodor Seuss Geisel was more than just a great author of children's books. His first children's book, The Cat in the Hat became an instand success. In 1960 Bennett Cerf bet Geisel $50 that he couldn't write an entire book using only fifty words. The result was Green Eggs and Ham. Cerf never paid the $50 from the bet.

1. “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

2. “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”

3. “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

4. “I meant what I said and I said what I meant.”

5. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

6. “Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.”

7. “If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good.”

8. “You can get help from teachers, but you are going to have to learn a lot by yourself, sitting alone in a room.”

9. “I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.”

10. "So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads."

11. "Being crazy isn't enough."

12. "Only you can control your future."

13. "You’ll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut."

Here's one we all recognize: “I do not like green eggs and ham I do not like them Sam I Am.”

My favorite: It's fun to have fun, but you have to know how.

We love Dr. Seuss. Between Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein, our child is guaranteed to be subversive.

her current favorites are the Lorax and Star-bellied Sneetches. Yeah, no social commentary in those at all.

Dr Seuss Day was a huge celebration in my children's old school. I was an adult before I read Green eggs and ham, if you can believe that.

I love these too! Writers who use more words than they need to DO create more work for the reader!

#1 is my favorite of all time, and I have quoted it for years. #6 is new to me, but I love it.
