Reading the first comment posted I will borrow something my daughter says...I just had a baby barf....ewww so did not need that mental picture. Feel sorry anyone if they every decide to go in for a trim....
Toni: That's matted hair and it's probably real. I've seen animal rescue footage of dogs with severe matting and the really nasty stuff looked like that hunk at the bottom of that fleece. You have to try to get to the hair that isn't yet matted as really solid matting is too much for most scissors or clippers.
That kind of stuff is hard on the hair and on the scalp. Besides the pulling, you can get infections and infestations. Seriously: Don't try this at home, period.
